Measurement? Assessment? Evaluation?

How often do we hear these words thrown around and no one has really defined them. I know it is symantics, but I use measurement as an objective test that has a finite score - summative. Assessment, to me, is formative so that teacher and student can work together to reach a place where the objectives can be met successfully. If a grade must assigned, then it is alway "pass." Evaluation is the process of assigning a grade using that widely accepted scale of A, B, C, D, or F based on evidence that has been gathered using formative and summative methods.

Introduction to the Nest

First, you must understand that my name is Kniery, pronounced canary. Yes, really! Therefore I do tend to make a play on words having to do with birds and their environments.

I am a library/media specialist in central Illinois. I live in Bloomington, but teach in a small district nearby. I am the professional librarian in the elementary school and I have two great ladies who manage the IMCs in the middle and high schools. My edublog keeps a running account of my elementary classses and the MS and HS IMC aides send me blog entries to post.
